Our Impact

There is no way we can put our hearts on paper to the extent of how we feel about the love and compassion shown to us by The Fisher House of Boston! We are The Fisher Family (no correlation to The Fisher House) from North Carolina. The patriarch of our family, a strong, vibrant man who served our country in Vietnam, was diagnosed with Mesothelioma. Our entire family was devastated by the news. We were blessed to have him recommended to Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston for surgery to remove the cancer. Of course, our first thought was we will get him through this regardless of the financial burdens that come with taking your loved one more than 950 miles for a surgery that is projected with a 4-6 week in hospital stay with at least 7-10 days staying in the area after being released from the hospital. Needless to say, so many financial burdens were lifted from the onset of meeting Jennifer DeLuca of The Fisher House of Boston. She welcomed us with open arms into her circle of families that are provided for during some of the most difficult times in our lives. She has taken care of our place to stay fully providing accommodations for my Mother, Sister and me during Dad’s hospital stay. We are forever indebted to The Fisher House of Boston! We are so overwhelmed with the generosity of such a fine organization! Thank You Jennifer! And Thank You Fisher House of Boston! PS- Jennifer, you will always hold a special place in my heart! You truly are a chosen one! God only chooses those he can trust with a job as big as yours!

“The social worker on my husband’s floor told us about the Fisher House of Boston. We were unsure if we even qualified because we were not from Boston, we came from Memphis for this specialized treatment. When Mrs. DeLuca called me the first time, it only took a few minutes talking with her to know we were going to be all right. Her kindness and generosity were overwhelming. She provided me with a place to stay that was above and beyond anything we could have imagined. She provided me with transportation back and forth to the hospital to see my husband so that I did not have to walk in the snow and ice. She provided me with grocery gift cards to help us eat. And she even included a precious onesie for our expected bundle of joy!

If there was ever an organization that actually does what they say, and truly help people in need it is the Fisher House of Boston.

The Fisher House was a kindness that we could never repay or even come close to showing our gratitude. Maslow’s hierarchy starts with our basic needs before we can grow, or in our case let my husband heal. The Fisher House Boston made that possible. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

I reached out to Jen DeLuca at the Fisher House 16 months ago, When I had NO IDEA how I would be able to stay in Boston to be with my son and manage his care, Jen facilitated housing for me so I never had to leave Kevin’s side in over 80 days. Jen was ALWAYS there. No questions asked. I expressed the need and she met it EVERY time. Going above and beyond. Not having to worry about housing truly helped Kevin’s recovery.
